We hadn't gone for a family outing for a while and Popo was out for a visit, so we thought that we would go for a bit of a hike. He wasn't that ambitious about it because this was supposed to be a rest day for him between his trips to the points of prominence. I wanted to get the kids out and about, though, so I made Popo come with us. He was happy to do it because he does enjoy hiking. I chose a trail out in Bryce Canyon called the Mossy Cave. I hadn't been there before and had just seen the trailhead from the road.
I was disappointed to find out after we arrived it was only a mile trail. Oh well, we were going to make it fun. It took Conrad and Mommy some time to get going as he needed some food. Popo and Zyla were wandering around for some time before we all showed up ready to hike. The hike was along a creek that had been diverted for water some time before. It created very enjoyable conditions in a place that had not seen a permanent stream such as this. Zyla walked herself and she was fascinated by the water.
As soon as we went a ways in, she had to go potty of course, so we found some bushes. She had no problem squatting out there. It wasn't long before we were crossing the bridge and going up the hill to the mossy cave. We hung out there and Zyla checked out the Mossy Cave for a bit. There wasn't much exploring to do as it was fenced off. We went back to the junction and went over to the waterfall. It was a pretty waterfall, sort of diminished just because it wasn't naturally there.
No one really gets excited about man made waterfalls and this was sort of man made. As we walked back to the trailhead, we let Zyla play down by the creek a bit and she enjoyed that. Then it was back to the trailhead. We decided that we wanted a little more exercise, so we stopped in Red Canyon on the way back to hike the Cassidy Trail for a bit. This was a long trail, so we knew that there was no way that we were going to finish it, so we just hiked long enough to get sick of hiking in the open, hot sun. It sure felt hot being in the sun as this was just an open wash. Popo got to carry Zyla for a bit on the way back and I think they both enjoyed that. All in all, we didn't do anything too incredibly ambitious as far as hiking went, but we got to get the kids out for the day.
